Abundance and Time

Do you believe in the phrase “once in a lifetime opportunity”? The narrative that if you don’t do something now, you won’t have the opportunity to do it in the future? I don’t believe in once in a lifetime opportunity.

Here me out. I believe there is an abundance of opportunity for each human, each day. Don’t you get a fresh, brand-new day each time you open your eyes? Any opportunity that was missed the day before, can still be found today.

There is only one thing in your entire life that you do not get a portion of abundance. That my friends, is TIME. Yes, even this very second that you are reading this blog. It’s gone, and you may not relive it again. Ever.

It’s important what you do with your time. And yet, even if you made some horrible decisions about how you have spent your time before, God always finds a way to open more opportunities. He makes them new for you, each day.

As an adolescent, I struggled with drugs, sex, unhealthy relationships and had a major attitude problem. I made some decisions that landed me in a place called “Teen Challenge” at the age of 16. No one put me there, but myself. I was away from my family for 10 months, living with 40+ girls that were struggling with the same issues. It was a Christian facility and kind of felt like a weird boot camp for teens. Sooooo many rules and no freedom. The program was 15 months, if I’m not mistaken, but my dad decided to take me out early.

I had the opportunity to have a second chance and use my time better, but I fell right back into everything I did before – but worse! I got caught up in an unhealthy relationship and ended up getting pregnant with Isabella and Anabelle as I had them back-to-back.

That’s right, I gave birth to two baby girls by the age of 21. I was working two jobs as a POS representative at KOHLS and had an invoicing office job at a company called J&B Importers. It was hard. But you know what, I put myself there.

I was 23 when my father died. To this day, it has been the worse day of my entire life. It was a wake-up call to stop wasting time on people that didn’t love me. Stop wasting my perfectly good time hating myself and having no self-love or respect for myself. It was then that I realized time is running out!

The time to do good and make the right choices are running out. The time with the people you love is running out. This is the time to enjoy what you have right now. Your body and the ability to live a full life.

Remember when I said that no matter how many times you’ve messed up God will use it?

God has good plans for you, and it’s not contingent on what you do or don’t do. It’s about knowing that he is going to shower you with an abundance of everything good. He’s interested on how you will spend your time today; with the people he has blessed you with.

Today is the day to be a light and shine no matter what is happening. To love on those who are looking up to you. To smile and make an impact in your own world. I hope you understand there IS an abundance of opportunity out there for you. Stick to what you believe in and keep growing into the person God created you to be. He has given you another day – YAY, more time! Don’t waste it.

Love you lots,

Alicia Eve Varela
